Is a soldier supposed to carry an M9 while in the Army Reserves center?

I know for my USAR Division (807th), there is an Armed Guard policy that there will be at least one armed person in the building at all times. They will carry the M9 and they have to be currently (within the last year) qualified that weapon, as well.

I have seen situations where a unit has given authorization for a Soldier to carry for security purposes. Especially if the Reserve center is not located on a military installation. Also the DoD passed guidance last year to allow private weapons to be carried on base with certain restrictions.

Although we've back off on it of late, for a while someone over drill--and even during the rest of the month when only AGRs were around--was designated to carry an M16 (its what we have) with a 10 round mag for security. I was one of the designates. Its a command discretion thing.

SSG Dennis Mendoza - No problem. Having come from AD (Infantry) to the Reserves, I can still say in all honesty, even after 5 years, that I don't know how Reserves work either! LOL!
Insofar as I know, arming people at Reserve centers is a relatively new thing in response to attacks on other centers and recruiting offices. Before a year ago, no one was packin' at our Reserve unit.

SGT Dave Tracy - yeah this Army Reserve Center it looks like it's condemned and only one person in three units carries a M9 and that agr individual also breaks many regulations that he would have gotten lock up for in active duty
