I’m always intrigued by people’s thoughts regarding this. I did air assault first at Campbell and I believe air assault was more challenging. How about you?

Air Assault is a harder school, but airborne has more honor, prestige and esprit de Corps, especially if you’re in an ABN unit.

The thing is, you don't just earn Airborne wings, you're airborne and you've got a different life in an Airborne unit. The two aren't really comparable.

That is a very good point that I had not previously considered.

SFC (Join to see) - I didn't see many 5-jump humps where I was assigned.

There are still plenty of Airborne wearing non-Paratroopers. Airborne is still an incentive for Cadets and retention, not always tied to an Airborne assignment. The Army is now making a concerted effort to send Airborne qualified Soldiers to Airborne assignments, but this can also negatively impact Soldiers as they continually go from Airborne to Airborne assignments, especially low density Soldiers.

Airborne is not an incentive for retention. Soldiers who reenlist for Airborne school will attend Airborne TDY enroute to an Airborne assignment. The same as Soldiers who request Airborne from their branch managers. ARTB has cracked down on the walk on policy and now requires ATRRS hard slots for Airborne.
The majority of P4J not serving in a Airborne position are IET students who were not assigned to Airborne and cadets who received it as an incentive.

Air assault was more physical and technical but airborne is more important to me as I’m a paratrooper with the 82nd
