I understand OML number, but i was told by a Senior Enlisted NCO that OML number is only for SLC Class date. Currently there are only 112 qualified, I know I am one of those people but my OML Number is extremely higher than the 112.

The OML should designate what order PME is given, but there are many cases that this may not be the case. Injuries, some non-promotables or higher OML #s getting standby slots, etc.

If you are SLC complete, you will be promoted before someone with a lower OML than you who isn’t SLC complete.

Ex: you are OML #10 with SLC complete. Two 68Ws are promoted for month of August. OML #1 has SLC complete but #2-#8 has not completed SLC (deferment or whatever reason). #1 & #10 will be promoted.

Thank you so much I was just attempting to verify some information. I appreciate not responding with an ignorant response. We are all leaders and should share information. Appreciate you.

I am OML #1 and my training got cancelled due to covid NO other reason, yet SLC still conducted training for OMLs below me and promoted “walk ons”, how can they justify this?.... (it would make sense if I denied training but that was never the case) now they are over strength, here I am in NOV still a SSG as OML #1 from the 19 list 68W, I’m not too worried I know my performance will bleed through, I got DHG at SLC 29 OCT2020 but now it makes me question ethics and question NCOs for “taking/giving shortcuts” lower OMLs promoted 9 months ahead of me, how is this fair? How or why did they get training? What criteria needed to be met?an SFC promotion is not that important in the grand scheme of things IMO. NCOES should not allow “walk ons” because I think it kinks our system, makes others bitter (why do I feel like I’ve been cheated) AND they should train OMLs in sequence and wait to promote! I was the good Soldier and followed the school cancellation orders, yet they still trained? Not ok to me from my foxhole and when I’m CSM I want to have a voice on this.

I’m in the same boat as you trying to figure things out. I was very confused also when I went to class in Dec 19. There were only 5 (P) 68Ws. I think our list is in a limbo sort of position. We are the cross over list as they implement new changes. Just hang in there and roll with the punches. The hardest part is over and that’s being promotable.

Also, what do you mean when you make the statement, “It makes me question ethics and question NCOs for “taking/giving short cuts”? SLC is a centralized school. You can send your NCO and if someone doesn’t show up then they will get taken on to that class. I had walk ons in my class and believe it or not 10 people didn’t show for class. This was before COVID.
