I have HSV-1 (Non-STD) which is what a cold sore is. Only thing is I get 7 or 8 of them and my mouth gets cut up and raw. I have medicine that I can take which will keep them from getting worse and go away in 5-7 days.

Would it not be safe to say that this message you sent is also a loose end?

Google the Army's standards of medical fitness. AR 40-501. Look through there.

Do you happen to know the Marines standards? This is a great help either way thank you very much.

Cole Onyx - I'm not sure how/if the Marines standards are different. I didn't see anything specific to the Marines when searching but it's probably out there somewhere. Most of the things I've seen seem to indicate that you will be fine. But the MEPS doctor will have the final say.

The only answer that will have any meaning will come from your local recruiter.

Local or not, any answer from a recruiter of the same branch is the same to me. I did ask my local recruiter but they got cold feet and ignored me after I said "form of herpes" (cold sores).

Cole Onyx - I would just go through the recruiting process and fill out the paperwork honestly. There's a whole slew of medical questions. If there's one about this condition, answer it honestly and let the chips fall where they may. If there's not a question about it, oh well. I know they will ask what medications you take so one way or another it will come to light. Again, just be honest on the paperwork. Recruiters aren't doctors.
