I would really like to know what type of ship were these sailors using, and who they confronted (specifics). Were these 2 crews, which I am assuming from 2 different ships totally defenseless against a piss poor sportsman recreational ships? I think there is more to the story, and I could bet they were given the order to stand down.

Same here. For some reason, they didn't look like your average Swabbie. I will stay tuned.

They are not from a ship. They are stationed in Bahrain. They belong to a Navy CTF that has Command and control over all Navy Expeditionary Troops. EOD, Seabees, Riverine and Expeditionary Intel. All HD/LD (High Demand/Low Density) troops used by SOF and combatant commanders. The command is NECC Navy Expeditionary Combat Command they are trained in small unit combat tactics and yes most of them go through some from of SEAR. They usually operate in the intercostal water ways and that is what they were operating in and that is why they were close to the shoreline. They conduct security patrols and convoy escorts for bigger ship traveling through intercostal stop small boats getting to the big ones.

WTF does Saudi Arabia have to do with it? In fact, Iran and Saudi Arabia are not on good terms at all right now.

Bombing clears an LZ. This is going to get very serious soon. I can imagine somebody developing radio trouble and doing something I will leave to the imagination of training scenarios we all participated.

1LT (Join to see) How? Thank the Iranians for a fast and safe ending. They did no wrong. Those Sailors strayed into their waters. Any response on our part more than that would be inappropriate.

Not implying that what we did was incorrect sir. Considering the delicate & ground breaking diplomatic situation that the US is in with Iran, I wanted to see what others thought that have more experience in this area then I do. I do agree that it was handled appropriately by both parties but....an apology is a little too much in my opinion.

I wish Obama would have taken action. And demanded our sailors back. When Kerry negotiating the non treaty. He did not ask for the release of Americans being held in an Iraniin jail. Why should this be any different.

Soooo, it would've been better if there was gunfights and death to show power instead of peaceful resolution? Just asking since my brother is over there fighting for us...

Your response is not valid since it was OTE, (overtaken by events). There's no one that disagrees with the outcome, but the question is what is the best response. The response so far was reminiscent to what was done with the Pueblo. This pat on the back could embolden others. If you have been paying attention, you will see the provocative acts by Iran that is primarily to show our weakness.

That is Obama response for everything. We are screwed any way. Iran will have the bomb and Obama will not be in office. This was a hostile act by Iran. Since Obama is calling Iran our alley. They should have escorted our ship out of there territorial waters. And not parade our sailors in front of the camera. And humiliate the women sailer. They made her wear a blanket over her head. If we had a strong leader. One not concerned about his legacy. We would have gotten our sailers back. They would not have been paraded before the cameras for the world to see. I guess you were to young to remember when they too our embacy hostage. Reagan was elected in a landslide. And our hostages were returned. With out firing a shot. And I know you are to young to remember the taking of the Pueblo. Iran is testing us. The Iranian's don't fear Obama and they respect strength. We have 150 million dollars that Obama is going to give back to Iran when he lifts the sanctions. And that is a powerful bargaining chip. You are three hours a head of me. I wish I could pm you like in fb. Here you are limited to the number of characters. I hope everything is going well with your brother.

TSgt Kenneth Ellis - I always feel at such a disadvantage with these discussions. They're so emotionally charged that it becomes "winners" or "losers". On the positive side, my brother is well. Thank you
