Negative. It's a no go by sheer numbers. Money numbers (so in debt America couldn't afford peanut butter and Ramen without help), job numbers (because they've been shredding Germany in protest of having free food and safety but no work), numbers of people (where will we put them?), and most important, unidentified number of hostile personnel. Countys taking on refugees are having problems with sanitation, rape, crime, violence, and security. Do we want those problems here? How would we control them? There's still a war on, and our defense budget was recently hacked to pieces, with draw downs on the way. Who will provide security? When the fighting starts, who will quell an uprising? We are a shining city on a hill. However, we've been at war doing humanitarian crap for the last 15 years. Sorry sir, but Mr. Foster cannot support.

Who gives a crap what he thinks. If I go find another LT that disagrees with him does that settle it? You act as though his opinion counts more than anyone else's.

With an open heart but cautious mind. Anyone touting our current vetting process for refugees as adequate is beyond naive. We all know the underpaid government employees doing this work are masters of time management and strive to do the best job they can while working 12 hour shifts (dripping with sarcasm). We actually have no true way to vet Syrian refugees, as no databases exist with information on the population. The databases that may contain data (FBI, CIA, NSA) are only checked if there is reasonable suspicion and certainly not for every single refugee. We should absolutely be taking in refugees, but the system needs to be greatly improved with major oversight. As is, the government hides this program from public view as much as possible.

I think we should take care of Syrian refugees the same way we took care of the Iraqi refugees, by toppling their shitty government, exterminating the rats that live there, and helping them to to rebuild their own country.

Fly in the buttermilk is that they don't care enough about their own country to fight for it.

They have no Woodie Guthrie. "This land is yooooour land, this land is myyyyyy land..."

So they refugee out.

That was kinda the same situation the Iraqis were in, wasn't it? It's kind of hard to fight for your country when your corrupt government makes sure you have nothing to fight with. When given the chance, the Iraqis did something to build their country.

I think it's a no brainer. Rather than having worldwide discussions about how many countries will allow how many refugees, why don't we just give the refugees their own damn country back. Give them a reason to stop being refugees.

It makes me worried because we don't know who we are letting in our home.

They should react the way their conscience dictates. Regardless of military affiliation we are citizens first and as such have the right to criticize or endorse the policies of our government. Washington's letter to the New York legislature 26 June 1775 says it best "When we assumed the Soldier, we did not lay aside the Citizen". We may not always agree on what the correct path is, but we all have the right to form and share our opinions based on what we believe.

Did you read the tweets?

13. If we want to be the kind of nation that others will follow,
14. the kind of nation capable of forging strong links in the Muslim world against extremism,
15. then we have to behave like that kind of nation. I get that people are scared.
16. But it's only during frightening times when you get to find out if your country really deserves to call itself the 'home of the brave.'

Present company included, right?

SGT David T. - They are not very subjective at all.

Honor is not a situational thing.

Capt Walter Miller - I read them. However, while I do agree to some degree that we need to forge meaningful relationships with the Muslim world. However, it is not about courage or bravery. It is about not acting in an irresponsible manner. While I firmly believe that the majority of the refuges are great people and are exactly who they say they are, I cannot effectively rule out the possibility that bad ones are intermingled with the good ones. As such, as in any risk management exercise, we cannot move forward until there are effective measures in place to mitigate the risks. I am not saying keep them out, I am only saying we need effective measure to mitigate the risks.

Capt Walter Miller - Conceptions of honor vary significantly from group of people to the next. That is why I said subjective.
