Reagan said it perfectly. And we will continue to have these shootings as long as our government refuses to take crime, mental illness, and terrorism seriously, and instead goes after the police for enforcing the law too effectively.
It also doesn't help when this administration sets prisoners loose because the POTUS thinks we have too many incarcerated.

Justice Department set to free 6,000 prisoners, largest one-time release
The action, following sentencing reform, is part of an effort to reduce prison overcrowding.

Obama thinks by taking all the guns from law abiding citizens would take care of this problem. Criminals will still get guns. And we will be disarmed. He's not talking about laws for pipe bombs. And the people who are doing them are crazy. And I don't think a background check would find it.

Until an Islamic terrorist (or anyone else with criminal intent) acts or makes a glaring tactical error to announce his/HER presence and intention, we are bound to always be behind the Eight Ball.

No, they are not. There is nothing new about mass killing in this country or any other country. There are plenty of examples of mass killing throughout the world. There is more attention focused on them because of mass focus by the media. There would be fewer incidents if there were fewer gun free zones and more people were willing to protect themselves instead of relying on someone else several miles away.

We should expect there will be more until we make better policy on the mentally ill and those with long criminal records and now immigration policy for those that might have international Islamic jihadists proclivities. The types of people that will do something like this are fairly narrow. We just refuse to deal with them head on.
The liberals want to go after people that will never use their weapons in the commission of a crime by making more laws for the already law abiding to follow. Conservatives want to keep criminals locked up, more sound immigration policy and to address the mentally ill roaming about. Who do you think stands a better chance of making a dent in the problem?

The calls for stricter gun laws will accomplish nothing. I will not argue their might be more coverage of tragic events like this in America then in all other modern countries. So it shows a false appearance it happens here more. But could that be because of the freedoms we have? Do we want to remain enjoying the freedoms we have? Are we willing to destroy our freedoms to assume a false sense of safety in our lives?
Could it also be we are a country that is very lenient with our criminal element and always think we can save and rehabilitate them. Why do we have safe cities to protect these criminals? Do they really need our protection? Must we think we can reeducate them and make them a contributor and respect society? Do you really believe they all can be rehabilitated?
Could it be we don't do enough for the mentally ill? We ignore those that are sick and make excuses for them. Even when they show signs of inflicting injury, death or destruction!
Maybe close our borders and have better vetting processes. Maybe we should keep better track of the visas that expire, and make sure they are leaving!
Just some things to think about and evaluate to try to prevent these types of tragedies. Because restricting law abiding citizens of their rights is not the answer!

SPC Andrew Griffin Something to think about: The term "mass shooting" applies to all shootings where the shooter took the lives of four or more people, it is not the same thing as "active shooter".
2015 has four mass shooting events, 2014 had two, 2013 had five.....
