SSgt Ryan Jones That is dependent on a few things.
1) are you re-training as part of active duty or Guard/Reserve?
2) is the area you're retraining to a "high-priority" AFSC?

SSgt Ryan Jones - shouldn't take too long, so long as they (your current unit) release you in a "timely manner" (subject to interpretation w/ Big Blue).
I know that it is taking time for me to get back to Tech School to retrain from Security Forces to Geospatial Intelligence due to the fact that Guard/Reserves have to fight for classroom space. Active folks get to slide in pretty quick since they are 'job ready' upon graduation, but we are on the bottom of the totem pole due to part time status (even if I were to be active Guard/Reserve).
As far as smooth, that depends on how fast your current unit will process you for transition. But, once you have school dates, you should be golden! ESPECIALLY if you are going into a high need area.

SSgt Ryan Jones I don't have an answer as an Army guy, but wanted to wish you the best of luck -- thanks for continuing to serve!
