How does terminal leave work now due to COVID? Am I able to use all my leave days as well as my ETS balance to get out earlier for a job?

SGT (Join to see) Clarify for me. What do you mean about ETS balance? When you take terminal leave, that is essentially your ETS/Terminal/Transition leave. Read AR 600-8-10 Para 4-9. This type of leave is not affected by any stop movement orders issued by the DOD because it is leave being used to return home. Your transition/terminal leave cannot exceed the numbers of day that will be accrued by the separation day. You can decide to also cash out up to 60 days of leave, and take the rest, if you have more than 60.

SFC John Wade - Transitional leave is approved at BDE or higher. In order for a Soldier not to lose leave days, Big Army and the DoD always recommend approval, no matter how many days are requested, as long as it doesn't exceed the number of days a Soldier will accrue by their ETS date. If a unit is going to deny the leave, they better have a pretty damn good reason to do so.

SFC John Wade - If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. However, my experience working with soldiers requesting transitional leave (including mine) is to have them submitted to BDE, or higher (this was 1 yr ago, so things do change). The more days you don't approve as a commander, the more days the Army has to pay out after ETS. The regulation is clear - approve in order to reduce payout.
