If you are testing stability, then here is a good article on some tools you can use. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2028882/keep-it-stable-stupid-how-to-stress-test-your-pc-hardware.html
If you are simply looking to benchmark, then 3dmark software is pretty good.

Keep it stable, stupid! How to stress-test your PC hardware
If you're not stress testing your new (or newly overclocked) PC hardware, danger may be lurking in its depths. Here's how to push your PC to its limits to ensure its stability.

I have never stress tested anything I have built and I have had no problems except for software issues. Here is the key. Do not buy junk parts and you usually do not have these issues. I also do not overclock. Buy what you need.

Who said anyone had an issue? Sometimes, the goal is to see how much something can handle. Other times, the purpose is to learn from others and attain the information before you need it.

SGT (Join to see) For the CPU I have a Blu-Ray that I have ripped to my hard drive. I go into the ISO and encode the main video into 1080p. This will put the CPU at 100%. I will monitor the heat generated to ensure it does not overheat and then check the video output for glitches. I use MemTest86+ for testing my RAM. It will also tell me if there are bad sectors on the RAM. I have never tested my GPU before, but I have heard of people using Furmark.

I have MemTest86 but have yet to use it. I'll have to check out Furmark. Thanks for sharing. I think I learn more from these IT threads than anyone else.
