I will be receiving orders to go to my first duty station (Fort Hood) from Kentucky on the 10th! Unfortunately I didn’t know that I would have to pay for everything up front (gas, and temp lodging) then get reimbursed so I didn’t save up enough. I know I can request a pay advance but I can’t do that until I have my orders which is the same day I’ll have to leave. On top of that I have to pay my down payment and prorated rent as well. I was wondering if I could request PTDY so that way I would have 10 days to request and receive my pay advice. Also, is there a such thing as BAH advance?

SPC (Join to see) Talk to your recruiter about delaying your report date to buy you time. Then you can go to Ft Knox for financial help like advance travel. The advance BAH sounds like DLA or dislocation allowance which is two months of BAH. However if you are single and have no dependents then you will not get it. Permissive TDY can be gotten at Ft Hood using a leave form otherwise a DA 31 Leave form. Please tell how you are progressing in this transition.

Ok thanks for all your help! I’ll be sure to talk to both of them tomorrow! MAJ Ken Landgren

Have you filled out a DA31 yet? If so, did your CoC not accept it, despite your situation?
Also have you looked at getting a Government Travel Charge Card? It should alleviate any situations like this, should it occur in the future.

I’m technically not in the military yet since I swear in and get my orders on the 10th. And how would I go about receiving a government travel charge card?

Pretty much an all-online process. Also, what do you mean you're not in the military yet? As in you haven't gone through BCT and AIT yet?
