How difficult is it to have command sponsorship granted?
I am PCS’ing to Hawaii in less than a month and my stepchildrens mother health has taken a turn for the worse so she’s asking if they can come with my husband and I now. I’ve been in contact with my branch and family services and I could possibly have my orders revoked. I already have my other kid enrolled in a new school there and many other things lined up and I feel like Command sponsorship will be the better option at this point. So does branch. Is it difficult to get this approved?

If I’m not mistaken PCSing to Hawaii doesn’t require command sponsorship like Korea. Are you trying to go somewhere else to help your stepkids mom?

I have no idea honestly. It’s what branch told me but it is something that I plan on asking my command about when I get there. No, I’m not trying to do anything like that. We are just all in agreement that the kids should be with us full time.

You should be able to bring them. It’s just a regular duty stationSSG (Join to see)

Those were my thoughts as well but it’s been made into a major thing. They will have to be cleared through EFMP first and if they are denied then my orders could be denied. I even had to refinance my POV to get it shipped there so it’s not as easy as I thought that it would be.SFC (Join to see)

Command sponsorship is easy to get approved as long as there is no EFMP issues. Even then, it's the EFMP that gets disapproved not the command sponsorship.

SFC Boyd,
Thank you for clearing that up. None of my kids are EFMP so that shouldn’t be an issue.

SSG (Join to see) everyone has to go through an EFMP screening as part of the process.
Assuming the EFMP screening doesn't present any issues, the only common location where your approval wouldn't be automatically approved would be Korea. The major issue that you will face is that you will either have to defer your orders 90 days to have time to process everything, or else submit the command sponsorship from Hawaii and one of you will have to pay out of pocket to fly back to escort the kids, or else they fly unaccompanied. It also takes longer to get approved once you're OCONUS.
