How can I maximize my chances of being stationed in Europe with the 173rd?

Firstly, I'm a USAR 25B. I ETS in June 2020. According to the Prior Service Business rules on goarmy.com, this MOS isn't available. I'm leaning toward 11X since most paratroopers will be infantry. Then I'd obviously need to go Airborne. I also heard I can speak to the branch manager. Will learning a European language help me get to Europe? Would anyone be so kind to provide some advice to maximize my chances of being stationed where I prefer? I also understand it's not about me, but I would definitely like to be stationed somewhere in a nice location. Why not try to make the best of my career ? Thank you!

There is a long line of Soldiers tryingvto get to the 173 and only so many slots per year. Get back on duty, take your first assignment and then trip for the 173. Thank you for your service.

That sounds like about the only option I have right about now. Thank you, Sergeant Major!

You probably won't get the 173rd for your first assignment, but you can easily get it for your second assignment when you request Europe as a reenlistment option.
As someone pointed out for your MOS, you get what the Army needs. Since you're going to ask for Airborne as well, you usually don't get to pick your follow on assignment when you receive training.

SFC Boyd, thank you for the response ! That's quite unfortunate but I'll find a way, I certainly have the will to get there ! I'm not sure if the MEPS counselor will have leeway in regards of assigning my next MOS, but if so, hopefully they have mercy on me!

Sorry to break it to you it wont be your decision for 11x. The meps counselor will come back and say this is what MOS the army is willing to retrain you in. Basically going back prior service you either accept what is given or get nothing. Kind of sucks for us prior service guys but it is what it is. Chances are you will have to suck it up your first contract back then come re-enlistment time go for what you want.

SGT (Join to see) - Which I'm not entirely happy with 11b opening back up for E6. Because right now my 368 is sitting on the BG desk waiting for him to sign which he has already said he isn't signing until my security clearance is finished which is crazy. So now my only option will prob be going back as 11b which I really didn't want to but I would have to suck it up and take what is given to me.

SFC(P) (Join to see) that's quite the bummer. I hope that your options are expanded, it's always unfortunate to "settle for less". Regardless, I'll have a chance, but maybe not for a while. I appreciate your responses, Staff Sergeant.

SGT (Join to see) - No problem and good luck. Hope everything works out for you. Who knows we much catch up down the road in the 173rd. lol

SFC(P) (Join to see) I was curious , were you ever able to negotiate a preferable MOS when/if you went to MEPS? My time is coming up in less than 2 months (unless I get a conditional release to go sooner) , so I've been pondering on what my experience would look like!
