Have you heard of this great cause - Operation Homes for Heroes?

This is an article from one of our very own Anita Nowocin from
Carry Me Productions. RP Members Anita and her duaghter Carrie are doing some great things for homeless Women Veterans.

There are reasons that many homeless women veterans don’t make it to 41, as many suicides compared to male veterans and six times the rate that civilian women. Many women veterans would rather sleep on the street than face the risk of sexual assault by staying in a shelter. Other issues with shelters are the extreme lack of privacy, cleanliness, crowded environment and lack of proper handicapped accommodations.

Call to Action

CMP’s call to action involves a shared housing program which helps people transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. As single female Veterans move into their shared home, they also have the option of rehabilitating a rescue animal. This is also unique in that most Veteran-only housing allows for service dogs, but not companion pets.

CMP is starting with a female only facility for Veterans because there is a large gap resource between single female Veterans and their male counterparts. Plus many of the female Veterans live with Military Sexual Trauma (MST), so living with men is not an ideal situation for them.

Thanks for sharing. It's important that we don't forget the unique needs of our female veterans.
