Has anyone been invited to a reunion for a prior unit you deployed with and if so did you go?

YES. 11th ACR Reunions (2000, 2005) held in Fulda Germany, 2007 and 2012 Reunions in Williamsburg, VA. I had hoped to attend the "Last Patrol" Reunion held just last week at Point Alpha (formerly known as OP Alpha, 1/11th Sector), Rasdorf, Germany. This is to be the last official return to Germany Reunion for the Regiment. But was unable to attend due to higher headquarters assessment at Fort Stewart.

Always an awesome event and the opportunity to re-connect with Troops and leadership is more worth it each time my wife and I attend.

Thank you 1SG. My old unit, 3d ACR is having a reunion for veterans that served during OIF 07-09 in a couple weeks from now and I've been debating as to whether or not to attend.

CPL Bryan Claeys I (and many others) are always glad when we have members of the current Regiment attend. For several reasons 1. To get a pulse for the organization as it currently stands. 2. Professional-Personal Development - It is good for the currently serving younger Troopers to get a pulse on us old(ER) cantankerous old bastards, take that back with them to share with the warning that if they let us down, we're going to show up and kick their ass. 3. It does an old Soldier good to interact with young Troopers, share our tales, listen to theirs....kinda like therapy without having to pay the therapist. For us, the current Regimental Cdr, CSM, Soldier and NCO of the year and the Color Guard are invited and attend. If the Cdr is unable, he always sends someone to represent him.

If you were part of the OIF 07-09 unit you should go. If you're currently serving with the unit, it could be a learning experience for you as well. Talk with your 1SG/CSM and see what they think.

If you are not a OIF 07-09 Veteran of the unit, I wouldn't recommend you just show up unless you are currently serving and part of the invited command team, color guard, etc as mentioned above. But still suggest you talk it over with your 1SG/CSM or even contact one of the Reunion Committee members and see what they say.

Good luck.

Never have been, but my father in law who was a Buck Sgt in the Air Force has attended many. He was a medic and his unit was deactivated shortly after he got out. They have had reunions for the past 20 years and he really looks forward to them.
