Has anyone been in charge of setting up Military Dining In or Ball? How was your experience?

CW4 (Join to see) As Class President of my OCS class that was one of my major assignments in 1982, not only was I responsible for finding and securing the location, I had to MC the entire Military Ball. It was a formal dinning out for the OCS class and families, with a guest speaker. Back then we had the "Smoking Lamp" and all the bells and whistles. I've hosted many many more since then (Battlaion Balls - 4, Brigade Balls 5, Redeployment Ball 1, and several retirement balls and my Retirement Ball and the "Grog Bowl" - Very Nice.

Wow, sounds like you have plenty of experience with this. I know exactly who I'm going to contact when I tasked to put one on.

What happens at a dining in stays at a dining in!! However, I've never had as much fun at a command function as I did at dining in. Abs hurt for days from laughing so hard. I think for Navy folks the sibling rivalry between the Chief's Mess and the Ward Room had a lot to do with it.

My experience was great. Set one up during ANCOC. NCOA had a thorough SOP, and others took delegated tasks based on their strengths and experin experience. I ended up being both the Narrator and the NCOIC of the Color Guard.
Worked out great. Enjoyed the experience, despite multitasking. The challange made me better.
