I'm in the TIS/TIG zone for getting promoted, but my number one disadvantage is not having any personal awards prior to joining the Army (ten years in the Corps without a single achievement or commendation to show for it). I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it to practice and compete next year at Camp Perry for the President's Hundred tab. I know I can compete and do well; as the shooting sequence is almost exactly how I qualified in the Corps before it changed its qualification system a few years ago.

You need to review the regulation and look at what you can effect. As for the presidents 100 and the like, commands often reward this type excellence with certificates of achievement and other awards. Continue to strive for excellence, look around your unit and see what you can impact and request to perform in these roles as additional duties etc.

Seek and you shall find.

According to AR 600-8-19, the President's Hundred is not listed. Therefore, it is not worth any promotion points.

He may qualify for one of the Competitive Marksmanship Badges though, which may be worth some, if not just the increased bragging rights.
Performing well at Camp Perry will almost certainly end up with some sort of points.
