When you go to the flight medic course the army puts you through paramedic and critical care. When I went through the program they were also giving the opportunity to get you FP-C cert but I heard they dropped that recently.

Yes, I got mine here through the program, I did fairly well this is a tough course especially if you don’t normally do this kind of thing coming from the line. I AM HERE NOW and I assure you they are still doing the FP-C. Knox if you wanna message I can tell you about the course.

SSG Hall,
I currently have a course date for the program and was wondering if you had any advice or suggested study material to help me to be successful during the course.

What's the chance of getting ALC tacked on while down at JBSA? Do they offer it?
Also, people tell me it is a full PCS with dependents. Is this true?

SSG (Join to see) - That is true, if a military course is longer than 6 months it is usually a full PCS move w/ dependents. This course is 10 months long, a word of advice if you get a reservation for this course when you get here get an apartment up by the university. As far as ALC it has been asked and attempted but so far no one has gotten a slot.

CPL (Join to see) - Out of all the classes honestly only 2 maybe 3 have failed out. The course goes in stages your school final, NREMT-P and Critical Care. If you fail the school final…twice you get recycled to another class. If you fail paramedic skills twice you get a third shot at a different location. If you fail the NREMT-P written you get a second shot paid for by the school or third at your expense. The kicker is you must be a paramedic to continue onto Critical Care so you will be postponed from AirLIFE ride outs. We haven’t lost one person in my class of 27… due to academia. Class FM11

SSG(P) (Join to see) - PT is scheduled every Mon Wed and Fri, but we havent done it in a while. since PT is an early day they want you to get sleep before tests...Well we pretty much test every day and by the time you get to critical care your basically on clinicals the entire time.

Hey SSG, I am an nationally registered paramedic. I’m stationed here at JBSA right now for 68w AIT, I have heard different things about putting in a packet for the flight medic program but I was wondering if you know anything about apply right out of AIT and how I would go about that. I appreciate any info.

We have had a few medics get chosen directly out of AIT for the course and they were not paramedics. I have two flight paramedics in my company that came in just like you with their NRP and came straight to the aviation side. When do you graduate? I can look into more to try and pull you over.

Good morning MSG, I am an aspiring 68W out of Arizona and was curious about the process necessary to find myself eventually moving into a flight paramedic position. My question to you is: what does this process from start to finish typically tend to look like for someone who goes the National Guard or Army Reserve route? Upon reaching AIT would I express interest in this schooling, or is this something that I must wait a certain period of time to find myself in? Working as a flight nurse/flight medic is my long-term civilian career goal and I'm curious to know how this can aid in that. Thank you for your time!

Got another question for those at the course. I've got a buddy who is heading there in January. He is a Staff Sergeant and single soldier. Are they having all single soldiers stay in the barracks regardless of rank?

Having done a few years in the 82nd hurling myself from airplanes, then working at the Ranger Camp in Florida, I have to say, being a flight medic is the most awesome and rewarding job I've had so far. If you're thinking about it, don't, just DO IT!

I am well aware. I want to reenlist for it, but I am on assignment to Stewart. I am going to my SGM on Monday to see if he can pull strings at branch.

Update: I got a slot in the course; I start 23 Sep 15. The trick was to go through Mr. Ackerson, the Assignments guy.

This is still a current fielding as this article is dated a few years back?

Yes. The army as a whole is still needing flight paramedics. The flight paramedic course is still young.

I'm here at the course now, they have the contract to be taught at the University of Texas Health Science Center until 2019... you got time.

After years of putting up with Big Blue and checking in patients as a CCP/FPC IDMT, I tried to go green 3 years ago. Ultimately, 1 too many stripes and too much active duty service time. Had the Army had this 14 years ago, I’d have been all over it. For those of you considering this...DO NOT SIT AROUND...JUMP. “Nicer housing...” “Better based...” forget it. Sense of accomplishment, comaradarie, making an impact are well worth the switch. I’ve been very fortunate to have worked and trained with many Dustoff crews. Second chances dont come along for everyone.
