So recently there is news about the FBI warning military families to scrub their social media for things that will identify them as military, where they live and such things.
Obviously giving your personal information is not a good idea regardless who you are; criminals are always looking for easy targets and we all have to keep personal security in mind. However, I feel by changing our lives we are giving in to exactly what the terrorist want. That single act is handing them a first small victory and more challenges and threats will follow. We have our own homegrown idiots that for some reason sympathize with ISIS those are the ones that cause danger to us at home at the moment. They may have already targeted any one of us, or none of us. Reasons such as this is why every member of my household are deadly accurate with firearms. We are not looking for a fight with local terrorist or robbers or anyone else but we will defend what is ours and assist our neighbors in times of need. To me, that is American, not cowering in the corner of face book hoping nobody notices us.
I have deep pride in my service to this country, I do not display my ERB on my back windshield but I am “Googleable”, so is my wife, my kids, a bunch of our friends are as well. I cannot feasibly remove all traces of my association with the military from the internet. If someone wants to find me they will, the information on all of us (even you) can be found through ‘friend finders’, heritage sites, white pages on line, there are an unlimited amount of ways to find people.
So here is my question, are you and your family going to heed the FBI warning or continue life as normal?
There will be no judgment, each of has to make our own choices for what is right for our families, I am just curious what your choice is.
