Colonel Klink on the old series Hogan's Heroes was actually an impresario.   In spite of being shown as a boob and a clutz,  he is a man who actually quite brilliant.

Are there any actors or other celebrities that you who have been former service.  Like Jimmy Stewart was a General,  in the Reserve I believe.

I found a few that might be a surprise to many:

Bea Arthur-actress was SSG in the Marines during WWII

Hugh Hefner-was a clerk in the Army during WWII

Chuck Norris-even though he always portrayed Army and Delta Force characters in his movies, he was actually an AF Policeman while in service in the late 50s

Johnny Carson-was in the Navy as a communications officer in WWII

Bill Cosby-was a hospital corpsman for the Navy in the late 50s

Ice-T-rapper/actor served a 4 year stint in the Army during the 80s

Mr. T-was an MP in the Army in the mid 70s

Clint Eastwood-was in the Army in the early 50s

Jimi Hendrix-was a paratrooper for the 101st in the early 60s

Mel Brooks-defused land mines during WWII in the Army

Pat Sajak-was a DJ for Armed Forces Radio and the Army in Vietnam

Alan Alda-most famous as Hawkeye on MASH was a LT in the Army Reserves in the 60s

Henry Fonda-was in the Navy during WWII

Clark Gable-was a flight instructor for the AF during WWII

Ted Williams-BB player was a pilot for the Marines in WWII and Korea

Ronald Reagan-was in the ArmyAirForces during WWII

These are just a few famous and probable unknown services performed in their time, there are many more but I just hit on these as a good conversation starter.

Jimmy Stewart was a favorite of mine. That was a different generation, when serving your country was seen by most Americans - including celebrities - as something worthwhile and honorable.
