I want to go to community college to study for welding and computer classes to start my career into the information technology field. However the local college is offering the course for 500. Does the Army have some sort of benefit that will help me pay for the course?

This was formerly called DANTES, though I think the names changed recently, you'll need to check, they're affiliated with the CLEP program....

This is the Wikipedia site, there's one for the school also, I've heard about it ever since I was USAF, though I never used it....

I've been suggesting this only as there's no tuition, only admin and exam fees. Look at http://www.uopeople.edu, it's DETC accred, maybe not regional, however I've read good things, and for the minimal cost, it seemed worthwhile. They have Assoc and Bach in comp sci, bus admin, and health sci, as well as an MBA. I don't know if they're accepted yet by VA, the svcs, or industry, they just seemed to me to be well worth the effort to check, I just must emphasize they might not be a panacea. Look also at http://www.excelsior.edu, very svc friendly, was NYS govt then privatized I got a 2nd Bach math through them, a friend got a Bach in math, he went to an OCS using it. There's also Edison college in NJ, and oak tree college in CT, I'll try to send more in a few mins, hope was useful, many thanks.
