I submitted a discharge upgrade over a year ago, 14 months ago to be exact, and I have not received any update in regards to my packet. The emails I get seem like they are automatically generated. I just want to know if my packet has even made it to the board yet.

If you are getting the e-mail I suspect they have received the packet, otherwise how would they know about your request for the upgrade? I wouldn't expect and answer for at least two years. I can't say for the Army's process but reviews for the Marine Corps goes through the Navy Discharge Review Board.
Maybe off the subject a bit but I knew a couple guys who got bad conduct discharges. While their packet was at the review board they sent them home on appellate leave. Eighteen months to two years was the norm.

You are getting emails so that means they got in the system. Its a complicated system and you can wait for upward of 2 years.
