I love reading the posts on here. I really do. But other times my email/phone starts blowing up with posts that make me scratch my head and say why. I do believe some will post just for the sake of buildng up those points.

Lind of what I'm doing right now.

It looks as if people are just posting and responding to add points to their totals. I can see value in having contacts but why make it such a competition type website/application? What is the value of posting for points sake?

There are quite a few who seem to. There are also people who seem to be on EVERY thread for some reason...as if everything posted has the utmost meaning in their lives. Sometimes I wonder what else they do. Of course my responding to this could be seen as this, just as your posting can, but I most recently saw the awards for the most influential person of the month. If people weren't doing it strictly for the points before, they might now. That's a pretty cool bottle opener. I may find myself creating memes and spending all day asking what color their favorite unit coin is.

Sir, I do enjoy your replies and take on things!  I think I will make it my mission this month to vote up all of your posts just to assist you in earning said bottle opener!

I cannot answer with absolute certainty about others engaging in this practice, but I can confirm that I DO!

Occasionally I also manage to insert something of meaning, use, or even helpful into the conversation too.

Yes, many people do that here. I believe everyone does it sometimes, though. It's the same with tagging someone. However, in another way, it does encourage people to continue a conversation and many times contribute with relevant information from personal experience and/or newfound facts and resources.
