Do you know all the ways DAV helps veterans and families?

The American legion does not help. They take your 25 dollars and tour the country. They ID one specific case and say look at what we are doing for you

CW4 Craig Urban - ...... I'm sorry that you or those around you have evidently had some bad experiences with the Legion, but I'd have to disagree. They, like other Veterans' Service Organizations (AMVETS, VFW, DAV, others), do great wok on the behalf of individuals and the veterans community as a whole. Yes, some projects are going to go awry and some people representing these groups may be less than competent, but don't broadbrush the whole organization based on your limited experiences. Give them another chance. How about if you try another VSO with the issue and see what happens. Maybe there just wasn't anything that could be done for the particular case....sometimes our expectations are not reasonable or well-founded.

CW4 Craig Urban - What post are you with ? I am at post 242 and we do a lot for our community from boys state , reefs across america , scholarships to high school students , also we put flags on the graves at a national cemetery near us . Sometimes we have the local police and the fire department over for breakfast .

I am a volunteer and coordinator for the DAV Transportation. I drive Veterans to their medical appointments. I really wish there was a commercial with an 800 # that when called would transfer the caller to the local DAV coordinator regarding transportation and also a commercial about volunteer drivers needed. We have 2 drivers, he drivers one day a week and I drive the rest because we have Veterans that need to go to clinics not just the local VA Med Ctr. I absolutely hate the fact that sometimes I have to turn Veterans down for transportation because we have a smaller vehicle and can only fit 5 Veterans in it. It is an older model Ford Taurus. I was told that if we want a bigger van like most of the other DAV chapters we need to raise about $15,000. I was told by my neighbor that she is going to miss playing bingo at our local VFW in Henderson, NC because it is closing. Craig, stop crying and get out there and help a fellow vet. When was the last time you needed medical assistance at a VA clinic. I was impressed with the quality of service.

You can volunteer to be a driver one day a week and help other Vets get to their appointments. I give back to Veterans everyday I drive for the DAV. We don't have to but I feel it necessary to provide hard candy, snacks and bottled water as I transport Veterans to their appointments. If an 83 yr old woman can do it right up until the day she passed, so can you!
