Do you have a story or picture to share about a deed performed that helped a noncombatant in the combat zone?

Soldier Meets Baby He Saved In Iraq 18 Years Later!

Greg Peppin was a soldier in Iraq when he made a split decision that saved the life of a baby girl and her mother. And now 18 years later, he's getting a reunion he thought he could only dream of. THIS is incredible!

I was in Tallil in 2003-2004. I am an Air Force critical care nurse and worked in the ICU in our EMEDS. We received a patient who was a young local Iraqi female who came to our gate because she was injured due to physical abuse by her father. We brought her in and cared for her and kept her at our base as long as possible to protect her from her family. Her father made every effort to get her back but we knew what would happen if she would return. She was able to be relocated after a few weeks and as far as we know she remained safe. Situations like that really stress the importance of how well we have it as Americans.

Col (Join to see) Thanks for sharing your story with the rest of the RP Members. I know there are many more stories out there of selfless acts of courage and compassion among our combat veterans.

Very nice story....

Unfortunately I have just the opposite kind of story to share. There was a young man outside the FOB I was at in Afghanistan. Everyone liked him and gave him odd jobs here and there to help him get money for his family, we brought his family on base several time for medical treatment, and did countless things to try and "Win the hearts and minds"........found out 10 or so years later he was setting IEDs in Kandahar.....one of which killed a Marine (was tracked via his thumbprint from when he was a vendor at the market outside the FOB) ....kind of a kick in the groin but what can you do.....you Win some Lose some.....at least we tried.....and guess that's all you can do.
