Do you have a favorite type of computer keyboard?

Preferences in keyboard interfaces (keyboard, mouse, screen, etc) are extremely personal. For me, the keyboard especially. It's a matter of touch/feel. The resistance and bounce of the keys. The size and spacing (I have sausage fingers) I do a little gaming (Minecraft mostly) and like a mouse with detents in the wheel so I can "feel" the selection of inventory items/weapons/etc (gamers will understand). I use a Samsung monitor/TV which has very good resolution and refresh speed. However, no computer monitor can match my new Droid smart phone. 21 megapixel camera sold me.

I prefer the basic flat keyboard SGT (Join to see). I have tried ergonomic keyboards but the medicines I take sometimes make it difficult in terms of being able to focus. I am still primarily a hunt and peck typist :-)

The one on this Gateway Computer that has outlasted every keyboard and computer I have ever had. Gateway made some quality product.

I wonder if I could find an old Mod-20 TTY Keyboard and make it work with a Modern Computer that might be fun.

For a long time, I thought Gateway made inferior products. How did they go out of business, then ?

SGT (Join to see) - From Personal experience they worked themselves out of a job. Nothing ever fails, nothing needs replacing, you could get one made to order with quality equipment. Sometimes Perfection is a bad business model.

Well, that's odd. Do you know of any reason Gateway didn't pursue other hardware fields - Server, router, etc ?

I like the Microsoft ergonomic one, that elevates your wrists. I've used it for so long that I can no longer stomach using flat ones.

I preference is for a mechanical gaming keyboard. I like the feel of the mechanical switches when I type. Because I am rough on my keyboards, I like the durability built into those designed for gaming. Currently I use the Logitech G910.

I remember someone else talking about this keyboard a few weeks ago. The price put me off, but they said the same thing about the durability and feel.

SGT (Join to see) - True, the price can be an issue. I have found that I would go through a cheaper $40 keyboard in about a month. Whereas when I switched over to a keyboard designed for gaming, they last for years. A 2005 Logitech G15 - 4 years (replaced because the space bar stopped working) and a Logitech G19 (replaced because the back light on some of the keys stopped working) - 6 years. In my mind, the longevity of use makes them cheaper in the long run to purchase and use.

That makes perfect sense. After reading that, I remember a few people I've worked with whom literally "abuse" computer peripherals. Loud typers make me nervous.

SGT (Join to see) - What is funny, is I am not a loud typist during normal usage. When I play games, I get excited. I have never thrown a peripheral attached to my computer. I have a stuffed head crab from Half-Life on my desk that I throw instead.

I used to use a Logitech gaming keyboard that was backlit and had programmable macro keys. I took a long break from gaming and have since been using the Microsoft Wave keyboard and mouse combo. It's extremely comfy and has adjustable tilt. I recently purchased some new games and found that gaming on this keyboard is just as easy as the gaming keyboard I used to have. I never really bothered with the programmable macro keys anyway so I'm not missing anything there. I do miss the backlight but that would just suck down the batteries of a wireless keyboard.

The 5.99 goodwill type...lol. I am not a hardcore gamer by any means so it does the job.

I use the MS Ergo KB 4000... I need it because of carpal tunnel and DeQuervains (a tendonitis in the thumb, similar to carpal tunnel...) I would be interested in trying a gaming plank if they ever came out with an ergo version, but until then, I'm staying with this because it fits me well...
