Do you believe the Major Richard Star Act needs to be passed?

If you have not heard of the Major Richard Star Act, the legislation would eliminate the offset for disabled veterans who were medically retired before completing twenty years of service. For some, this would result in a large bump in their monthly benefits. Do you believe this legislation needs to be passed? Can you elaborate on your opinion of the legislation?

Not real sure what I think of it to be honest. Most folks I know that were medically discharged are now 100% disabled anyway post discharge so there is no offset. 50% and above there is no offset.

Actually, there is. Speaking as someone who was medically retired after seven year and presently receiving 100% VA benefits, I do not receive any portion of DoD retirement, and I have not received any retirement income since my first disability rating of 60% back in 2014. So long as one did not retire after twenty or more years, there is an offset incurred whereby every dollar of VA disability is taken from what one would receive for retirement. CRDC only applies to those who receive disability and retired after a full term of service. Those who do not qualify for CRDC may apply for a benefit if their disability is the result of combat, though.

The only change I might make is " combat-disabled" perhaps should be "service connected-disabled"
