This is just great. My corporate offices are in the LA area and I'll be there in December for the annual Christmas party. I sure hope there are no earthquakes when I'm there.

well ... it is like ... I am pretty sure there will be a wild fire in CA ... just don't know when and how bad it will get....
I don't mean to "devalue" their assessment ... but it is just a game of publicity that more people pay attention, more life maybe save when it actually happen.

I was in Newport Beach during the Northridge earthquake and in Temecula during the SoCal desert quake below. From where I was during the Northridge, the motion was rolling. The 1999 quake was a violent jolt followed by rolling since the quake echoed off the eastern Sierra Nevada range.
I prefer unpredictable TX weather to SoCal quakes. At least I get a short warning before the weather gets bad. Although, the small quakes we get in Irving are unnerving when on the 6th floor, even if they are small.
Godspeed to those in SoCal when another big one hits.

I would not worry about the media's affinity for overstating a negative story. Not only that, but the Earth is prone to tectonic shifts and unless we can glue the fault lines and impede these shifts (which is impossible) then they are just sensationalizing the news. Sgt Kelli Mays

Likewise for the Puget Sound area...
Actually the "Big One" will likely be an ARKstorm. With most of the San Joaquin Valley, anything west of I-5 etc. flooded, it's overdue too but is something that happens ever 100-150 years. Google it and read up on it.

One chance in 912 each day you are there, according to the article. Odds are you will miss it.

I work here and live here. If it happens, all we can do is hold on and wish for the best.

Well the San Andreas fault line has been well studied for a long time since there is so many people, agriculture, business located near it or within impact range Sgt Kelli Mays.
One of the many things to be thankful for in this nation is the engineering and construction expertise which is so prevalent here. Our buildings and road and rail networks are very robust. If a significant earthquake hits LA while you are there consider yourself blessed that you are not in Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Nepal while an earthquake hits one of those Nations near the Himalaya Mountains in the vicinity of the Himalayan fault.
