Did any of the Transition classes you took exiting the military really help your transition out that much?

I had one Air Force transition class that helped me out a bit, the entrepreneurial class Boots to Business. There I got to meet the members of the University of Georgia's Small Business Development Council. That proved beneficial, other than that, not much else helped; including the TAP class. How about you, any classes prove beneficial to your transition?

I actually just had this conversation with some other VA HR specialist at a training event recently.
Many of people don't understand, that while these transitioning programs like TAPS, while placed with good intention- they are leaving our Veterans with outdated hiring and recruiting not so "best practice" information, (how to write a decent CIVILIAN resume isn't horrible) but many of the learning points are unhelpful at best and damaging at worst.

Agree Taryn. In many ways the resume/interviewing/hiring information presented, while not necessarily bad info, can be a step or two behind what's going on out there RIGHT NOW. For example, the classes mention having a profile on LinkedIn, maybe have a screen shot or two about it on a PowerPoint slide, but not really deep insight in to how employers are using it RIGHT NOW to screen candidates.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... (continued for an hour) ...no. however what did work for me is that fact I didn't want to be a "bum" and work. To me seems that those transition classes check the block. What they could have done was keep my PAYS program promise Wich wasn't.

I agree in some ways to what you're saying about it being a "check the box" type of exercise. The members of my base's Airman & Family Readiness Center are dedicated, the list of classes is solid, many of the briefers give at least a few nuggets of valuable information; however, the "one size fits all" approach and the tendency of speakers to rely on PowerPoint presentations (e.g. death by PP) can cause it to come across a bit flat and unappealing. Just a view of mine, what do you think?
