Not my position, but just so you can understand this interesting dichotomy; The warmer climate is causing the polar ice caps to melt, which releases cold air which rushes south or north depending on which cap it is. This incoming cold air then cools the temperature all over the world. That is why they say the planet is heating up while anecdotally everyone feels the effects of colder seasons.

I watched a recent episode of Top Gear on BBC wherein the "boys" drove to the North Pole. If the "ice cap" is melting, I wonder what all that hard stuff was that they were driving on?

CPT Jack Durish, yes, there is plenty of hard stuff around. Nobody is saying that it is all gone or will do so soon. However, are you denying the fact that the sea level is rising due to the ice cap melting? Or are you denying that the ice cap is melting at all? Your statement is equivalent to saying that the CFC is not depleting the ozone because there is still ozone left.

SFC (Join to see) You are mixing so many things together and skipping around and is further evidence you are not looking at this but repeating what others are saying.

I think it happening, and that all of the effects of global warming are not understood, and probably won't be entirely predictable until they happen.

Climate change is real and has been since weather started on Earth, but all the $ in the world, carbon tax and or carbon credits will not change it! The $, time, efforts and brain power should logically be applied to preparing for it, not trying (emphasis on 'trying') to stop it or change it!

This is probably the simplest and clearest explanation of the difference between weather and climate, and directly addresses why a colder winter or summer does not contradict the notion of climate change (global warming):

This video presents an excellent description of the difference between weather and climate (although, to be fair, I can predict the path of a hunting dog - they "cast" ahead of the hunter - so the illustration is not entirely accurate). However, this video has nothing to alter the thinking of "deniers". I have studied weather and climate as a sailor and understand it better than most of the so-called experts who are producing climate models on their computers to make us believe that we humans are causing climate change. I say so-called experts because most of them are not climatologists (most have studied other academic disciplines and believe that their special knowledge in one area make them expert at everything) are either selectively choosing data or altering it to build their models (very unscientific behavior). It seems apparent that they are doing this, not to further scientific understanding, but rather to exert influence and control over human behavior. They want to make people behave in ways that they feel people should behave.

Tyson is a dunce on this topic. CPT Jack Durish And trying to make a distinction between weather and climate is okay, as long as one realizes that all climate is, is a large term state of the weather. By seeing these differences in temperatures, winds, pressure, etc scientists (meteorologists) try to figure out why. A forecaster never really has the full picture due to weather related events like vorticity, gravity waves, short wave trofs, cold air damming and the list goes on into infinity.
