When I was in the civilian leader of my section got some expensive training paid for by the unit. This upset me a bit because to me military money should go to training people who are active duty in the military, not to civilians working for the military, they have their own other ways to get what they want.

Though I recognize this may not be a popular view of such a thing.

Depending on the Civilian position, the DOD sees the training as necessary to maintain the job coverage as the civilian will most likely not be deployed when the SMs have to go and they have experience and continuity within the duty position why everyone else is gone, at least that is what my experiences within that arena have seen.

I concur with the SFC on this one.  DoD civilians can be a huge part of the team, especially since they stay in place when we leave constantly.  There are still drawbacks to civilians in the DoD, but on a whole I'd say they contribute a great deal to the mission.

Can you be more specific on what the training was and why you think it was wasted?

TSgt you as part of the Chair Force.  LOL,  certainly do get it.   I am teasing you but I do get the point you are trying to make.

MCSE training, microsoft certification at the time worth about 3 grand. There was also me and the nco i worked for available. we were in a garrisoned unit. Though admittedly even if my nco or I went, it would of been a waste in general. to run the IT functions of the unit we were in did not require that level of ability.

Civilians should pay there on way. Marines should keep their buffet to themselves. It's hard enough to get the money.

Especially when they are heartless and were former veterans.  Thanks for seeing that.
