If I was to try anything close to what's in that picture I'd break/dislocate, and probably end up in ICU.

I'm sure the medics would agree with that. Though, you'd get a good laugh at them if you were honest and told them how you ended up there ;)

I look at that pic and see nothing but shattered ankles in my future. And I'm not talking the "take two Ibuprofen" pains!!

Practice with a TRX or with rings.
Also put a hand on the wall for support.

SGT (Join to see) - I have 1/2 inch, 1 inch and 2 inch. 2 inch for hip, knee and ankle work in the squat rack. 1 inch for just about everything else. I'm not really sure what the 1/2 inch is good for...

TRX is pretty awesome! It definitely has helped my pistols!

I also practice with the rig to balance... one day I shall get down and back up with no help.

I have no idea what a pistol squat is,, but Im reasonable certain if i were to attempt the move depicted above in the picture it would result in a crumpled mess of human on the mat, quite possible with the handle of a kettle ball being logged in a place it was never designed to be.
