So i have been told that we can wear the basic training ribbon on our ASU. Its blue with a red stripe in the middle. Now i have never recieved that ribbon i actually bought it myself. So idk if they issue them anymore. Its also not in my iperms either. I was given the national defense ribbon and the army service ribbon when i graduated basic and AIT. So my question is....are we allowed to wear that ribbon if it wasnt issued? I was also told that we can wear the 5 year service ribbon too. Thats gold and black. But like the other one...its not been issued nor is it in my iperms. Just didnt want to do anything wrong so im asking.

SGT (Join to see) - I'm curious on this, too. I want to make sure my ribbons are up to date on my blues. All I have on there now are my AD ribbons.

You are referring to a State award. If you are a NG Soldier or Airman in that state you may be eligible for those particular awards. Each state has their own awards/decoration for various recognitions. Two things to keep in mind: 1. They are not worn if you change status by going into the Reserves or Active Component. Only federal awards are worn. You may continue to wear them if your remain in the Guard but get activated. 2. If you transfer to another State. Though some States may allow them. MD did not. Something else to keep in mind, commemorative ribbons are not worn. I’ll repeat the advice shared elsewhere: check with your S1 or Readiness NCO.

It sounds like you are referring to State awards. I recommend you discuss this with your leadership and also be sure your ARB is updated with any State awards you may be eligible to wear.
