I am a single soldier who is deployed at the moment and I was hoping to PCS to a new duty station upon my return home. I recieved my promotable status while deployed and I will have completed 2 years at Fort Irwin which is my first duty station. About 1/3 of my deployment will have been spent in Kuwait which was easy, and the rest of it will be in Iraq. My branch manager told me about the 9 month dwell period when I get home but can I request to have that waivered so I can go to Korea or elswhere?

Last that I checked, this is possible but would require that the first O6 in your command to sign off on it. I tried to get this dwell time waived at one point and got shot down. I was also married and had a young daughter, but they weren't big on waiving dwell time for anyone back then because of the idea that quick deployment turnover was the main cause for suicide in the ranks. You can always try; the worst that they can do is tell you no.

There is a very scientific reason for dwell time, all Sokdiers should take full advantage as one never knows what will come of it. Thank you for your service.

I agree but they need to hear it as often as possible. Thank you for your service.

You can ask for waiver a million times- whether they are granted on not is the question.
