Normally in civilian clothes (I'm NG) I carry a KA-BAR everywhere I go. Is it okay to carry it while in OCP during drill weekends and AT? Thanks!

Why don’t you just have a regular knife, like everyone else?

In civilian clothes, I carry a Leatherman, utility knife, KA-BAR, and a smaller fixed blade - they all have different uses any I wouldn't want to be without any of them at any time.

I’ll just say this for professional development.

At the very least, you should carry a leather man (or Gerber) and a standard 3 inch or so blade that you can have inside your pocket or somewhere accessible throughout a duty day.

99.5% of your squared away Troops will have this set up, maybe without the Gerber and only having the knife.

I would say Kabars are not necessary to carry around, whether it be civilian or military, unless in a practical environment.

That being said, if you’re in the field and perhaps creating a hooch or lean-to shelter, a Kabar would be appropriate for creating stakes (and other troops would appreciate it too).

But the moment you start carrying a knife at every hip, that is where the “boot” label and stereotype starts to click and nest it’s place within your name to everyone.

Take from this what you will, but you don’t need to carry an armory of knives on you.

That is not a question that can be answered here. You need to consult your CoC at your unit and speak with them about it. Most units don't really have a problem with a knife being carried but there are laws on length of blade that have to be adhered to for a non-issue carry.
