Hello all, I am currently a reservist fresh out of AIT. After going through IET, I realized that I found my true calling and would like serve in combat arms. However, I feel like switching from the reserves to AD is a very long process. My recruiter only gave me form 368 to take to my unit but I was told that I need to send it up my CoC in a packet. My question is, what types of forms are required in the packet? Just trying to make this process as smooth as possible. I know by going Active will enhance my skill as a soldier and it is the first step to making this into a career. Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

The 368 is really all the document that your Active Duty Recruiter needs. Yes, it will need to roll up the entire Chain of Command and back down again, but this form (if approved by all) will release you from the Reserves so that your AD recruiter can process you. Your unit, itself, can add more documentation (such as letters of character and counseling forms) if they choose.

Push it up the chain, but put the recruiter in contact with your unit's admin NCO. I just received a conditional release. The state of Wisconsin requires a number of items in the packet, I don't recall them all, but it's your unit's admins NCO's job to know what's required. Or to be able to find out. I had to get a counseling, turn in my OCIE (Don't do that without talking to your NCO support channel!) and get the form signed off by my company and battalion commanders before the State would release me.
Be patient, respectful, and keep pushing for it, if you know it's what you want.

Thank you for your response SGT! Just wondering, how can the 368 be signed off by multiple commanders? Isn't there just one block for the authorizing official? Which would ultimately be the general?

And approximately how long before you got your release form signed?

SGT (Join to see) - That may have been state specific form. All I know is that I had to get signatures up the chain. The admin NCO took care of that for me. I never saw the packet. I got the release a couple days ago, and I've been working on it since the beginning of August. I consider that mine went rather quickly, as our admin NCO is on the ball, and didn't sit on anything.

You need an Active Duty Recruiter. Go find one ASAP. If your command is willing and your MOS is needed it's usually a pretty painless and quick process.
