Calculating years of experience into commissioned pay?

Just looking for some clarification on years of experience.
I’m a direct commission AD social worker as an 1LT, but prior to this assignment I spent 8 years as an enlisted reservist. Does this enlisted time count towards years of experience? Or is that commissioned experience only?
Thanks.

You won’t get prior enlisted officer pay, I think that’s only for 4 or more active years, but you should get paid as 02 with 8 years in. Enlisted time does not count towards next officer rank like professional degreed or credentialed civilian time may.

O-1(3) through O-3(3) pay is for commissioned officers with over 4 years active duty service or more than 1,460 Reserve points as an enlisted member or warrant officer.

It's either 3 years of service AD or 12 years reserve time. I switched over at 18 years reserves. I found the table on the armys HRC site. Let me see if I can find it again.

A great reference for future input is DODI 7000.14-R: paragraph 010203 A.6. Creditable Service for Certain Commissioned Officers. Effective November 24, 2003, the restriction that members must be paid from reserve appropriated funds to qualify for the special rate of basic pay for pay grades O-1E, O-2E, and O-3E based upon creditable service points is eliminated. Therefore, effective that date, commissioned officers in pay grades O-1 through O-3 with more than 1,460 points computed under 10 U.S.C. § 12732(a)(2) for service as a warrant officer and/or an enlisted member are entitled to the special rate of pay. So some individuals may have a blend of AD points to include deployments, etc., that would greatly reduce the 12-year “normal” timeframe.

No, thank you. One of my direct commissionees has a good back-and-forth with our MILPO over whether he was entitled to the additional pay based on points. Needless to say he won the debate and several other officers were identified as being entitled to the same and there was a huge pot of money set aside to pay the debt of service to those individuals. I think we keep each other on our toes and in sharing regulatory guidance, we can extend the helping hand a bit further than before. Take care, brother. 1LT (Join to see)

Copy. In reviewing my reserve time, I lie roughly 200 points below the threshold for the “e” rank, however it looks like I’ll obtain some benefit from my reserve time. Thanks for the correct information, as I can see it is easy to misinterpret and I want to make sure Service Members are getting their dues.
