Synopsis: On this week’s episode of Borne the Battle, we have a conversation with Dr. Sumitra Muralidhar, director of VA’s Million Veteran Program (MVP) in the Office of Research and Development. MVP is the world’s largest healthcare system-based research program on genetics, lifestyle, military exposure and health.

Medical and genetic data contributed by Veterans is being studied in order to help researchers better understand how genes affect health and illness, with the hope of one day providing precision, personalized healthcare to both Veterans and the general population. Participation in the program is completely voluntary. MVP has a goal of enrolling a total of one million Veterans, and since the program began in 2011, over 800,000 have already signed up.
