Miss the days of shining boots and starching uniforms. At least it showed which Soldiers actually showed pride in their uniform.

I always kept my boots spit shined and used heavy starch on my fatigues. If you want your troops to look sharp you have to look sharp yourself and they normally will follow your example.

I still think you can see which soldiers show pride, just in different ways. I always judge soldiers based on how clean their boots are, if their uniforms are wrinkled, how clean their uniforms are, and honestly if their name tapes are sewn on. It is super easy to tell a squared away soldier from a shit bag any day of the week

I was always told you could tell a lot about a persons shoes, in this case boots. A good spit shine and Personal Pride told me a lot about a Soldier.

Black boots you spit shine, looks more professional. Brown suede o.k. for the field.

No apology needed. I started wearing and shining boots in 1983! Loved it!
