Many great leaders had great mentors who taught them excellent examples of leadership to help guide them on their paths to becoming inspiring mentors themselves. While on duty my new Flight Chief shared something she was taught and has lived by ever since.

-Place a chain flat on a table. Push the link on the end from behind and the chain bunches up. Now take that same chain and pull the chain on the opposite side and the chain not only straightens, but the rest of the links follow.

The point of this was that if you lead by doing (lead from the front) people will not only work more smoothly but they will be inspired and follow along. There are many great Leaders on this site, what are some of the analogies or lessons that helped you all become the leaders you are today?

One of the greatest lessons I learned was from my chief SSG Demartin. When I first joined my unit, I was fresh from another duty station. I thought I knew what I was doing. He quickly put me in the hot seat and gave me everything to do. For an FDC member there is a lot to do.

One of the greatest lessons I took from that, was that no matter how much you think you know. There is always more to learn.
