Whoever has seen the series Band of Brothers and The Pacific have seen what NCOs, Officers and all troops mean to good order. What are your impressions of Capt Sobel? Were the NCO correct in trying to get him replaced and what do you think the Commander was thinking when he reprimanded the Sgts?
My own personal take is respectful of the self-disciplined that was enhanced and incredulous at the behavior of Capt Sobel. A read into his own life afterwards was kind of tragic. Like I said, we as NCOs are hard to qualify in words alone.

Sobel was later revered by many of the same NCOs for his strife was great training for the terror of war. They stated that because of him they came together as a unit to overcome his adversity. That said, he wasn't quite so team centered; his motivations were for grandeur rather than looking out for his men. His transition out of command was more than likely the right move because his platoon leaders and executive officer were dealing with his harshness in an escalated manner; whereas his NCOs drew a line of distinction for the regiment's leadership to see what command climate existed within the company. Climate is a great indicator of the leadership. Men eventually take shape or form in some manner based on what the command climate allows or doesn't allow.

Thanks. I was very interested in his contributions to the unit. Kind of sad and an irony overall.

Revered doesn't seem to fit. They didn't honor and respect him like Winters. They probably were grateful that the hard training prepared them for war. But they didn't become an elite unit because of him but inspire of him.
Larry right on point, I loved that series watched it all the way through during my second OIF rotation. He was a Soldiers leader and it was tragic about his life later on, but he molded and provided the proper guidance and leadership his men needed and deserved.

Solid disciplinarian, poor tactician. To be real though Sobel never would have made it through the invasion anyway, the guy who took his spot and thus his plane got shot down.
