Are we finally moving towards a right sized Officer Corps with 500 more majors given "pink slips"?

Honestly I see no need for an excessive amount of officers in the rank of Major; LTC's command battalions, captains command companies. So unless there are command positions specifically set up for Majors then I see no need for so many other than those who serve as Staff Officers directly serving their commanders but you don't need 10 of them per command.

The same could be said for 1LTs and BGs, but if you don't have them, where do you get your CPTs, LTCs, and MGs from?

MAJ John Adams - Never did I suggest getting rid of all Majors but I see it as the Army sees it and that is that there are so many that you do not need them all. Keep X amount around to fill in Staff positions (same for all Officer positions) but do not have so many in excess that you do not need them or that they are not filling a significant position.
The Army obviously realized that they were hording certain officers in the grade of Major which is why they felt the need to trim the excess. It's really too bad and an awful thing to do to a great Officer who may have a family and desired a lifelong career in the Army but remember everything is according to the needs of the Army and not the Soldier.

Roger that. I wasn't aware that there was a surplus of majors right now. I do agree that the more you have, the more get passed over for LTC. The last thing any service needs right now is excess chiefs for the number of braves.

Awesome Sir, I do feel very heavily for the great Officers we have out there. My wife is a young 1ST Lieutenant and I often wonder if she will be fortunate enough to make it beyond that rank given the direction the Army is currently going.
