As a ROTC cadet in the SMP program, and also assigned as a drilling member of a reserve TPU, are you eligible for any VA benefits if you were injured while functioning in an official ROTC capacity. For instance, if you were injured while rappelling with your ROTC unit.

No you’d be taken to the hospital by the cadre and they’d file under the schools insurance. No VA benefits tho.

Cadets that are injured in training are covered under Workman's Comp. I may be wrong but I don't believe a Reserve Soldier would be covered by VA if they were injured during an IDT training session or battle assembly. There would have to be a line of duty investigation first. But I believe VA coverage is only for injuries resulting from active duty.

That's a good Q Major and as a former PMS I have to say - can't answer it right off, would have to check w/Cadet Command. Pretty sure the answer is NO in terms of ROTC; but it might depend in an SMP status on how the USAR views that. If your Q is theoretical, I'd contact your nearest university ROTC Dept and ask; if it's about an actual specific case, I'd go to that school. I see a couple of replies by other 0-4s, these may be serving/prior ROTC guys and they are saying "no" as well. I'd go w/MAJ Strong about being filed under school insurance - that sounds right.
