Are any Army NG officers able to transition to Active Duty Army now?

I only joined Army NG OCS because AD wouldn't accept prior service. And now I keep hearing it's almost impossible to switch, and so it's sad that I have to hope for another war to improve my chances. Has any guard officer been able to make this transition?

Yes I made the transition back in 2009. It was on a program called "call back to active duty". I don't know if they still have it available. I hate to tell you but I don't think that it's going to be easy. First you need to be at least a captain. Second your state needs to release you. This is something that most sates don't want to do. Due to all the money they invested in you. I would also recommend that you go to active duty captains career course. The other thing that would help would be that you were in a critical branch needed for AD. It's a very long process regardles. I wish you good luck. They are still conducting major cuts on AD.

War it is! I'm infantry so I guess I'm screwed. It's so frustrating. I was active enlisted for a long time and the military is all I want in life.

Try to volunteer for deployments. There is a site out there that is always looking to fill vacancies. Also they won't accept anything but captains for active duty from what I am tracking. Maybe you can build some relationships and someone could advocate for you if you get a few deployments. I also know that there is LRS in Michigan. I know a few people in Michigan

Oh believe me I will be networking my ass off regardless. I am going to IBOLC in Nov so I'll try to work some magic there too.

Sir,
AGR (Active Guard Reserve) is going to be your best bet if you can get picked up.

There are two good ways if you were/are super hooah, join the regiment as an LT or join the regiment as a Cpt, both require a year in the position as a PL or company commander before they will take you for a 3 year tour. But yeah like the above posters said it is nearly impossible. I know only one person who was able to make the transition and it was from the reserves.
