I listed my car with USAA and received a pretty good offer. Has anybody else used the car selling feature? Are there any drawbacks to it? The offer I got was quick and seems to be very good and I am considering it and just wanted to see if anybody here has had dealings with them.

Well MSG Wade Huffman I would recommend the service 100%!!!! I listed my car yesterday morning, and just got back from closing the deal. The dealership paid me a little more than the black book value and even cut me two separate checks so the total amount was under $10K per check so I can deposit them directly into the USAA account. Again, I would recommend this service 100 times over!!!!

I've used USAA for decades but didn't realize they had a service for selling your car. I knew they had a car buying service though. Do they arrange for a local buyer or is this a service like CarMax? Sounds interesting! May be something to consider when I get my next car.

I am unfamiliar how CarMax works but with USAA you list your car and it seems to me like they get offers from different dealerships and contact you with the best one. I didn't realize it was an option either but seems pretty good. Like I said the offer I got was not bad and I will likely proceed with it, just wanted to hear others experiences, if there are any.

1SG (Join to see) , please let me know how it works out for you. I'm genuinely interested in hearing your 'review' of the process. I have been considering using CarMax to sell my car next time I buy. With them, you take your car in, they inspect and give you a written offer good for seven days, with no obligation. Guess you could get an offer from CarMax and from USAA along with a trade in offer from a dealer and go with the best offer.
Of course I know you always get more selling on your own, but it's a LOT more of a hassle.

I will keep you informed MSG. I agree that one can usually get more selling yourself, but then you have to hold out and wait for someone to actually have the money. All too often we get those people that say they are interested and going to buy it, only to come back a few days later and say they couldn't get the money. The offer I got was actually over the "black book" price. It is a little under the blue book price but not by much. I understand that the dealership has to be able to make a little money too so I am OK with that. The joy of it all, is that I am not in a position where I "have" to sell. I just want to sell it, and then next Spring, I will buy a new one. I will be talking to them today again at noon to set up the face to face appointment (hopefully today as well) and I will let you know how it goes.

1SG (Join to see) , we are of like mind in selling a car. I have come to the conclusion that if you put a value on your time (and you should) then that makes up for the difference in the price you could receive by selling on your own. For me, it's just a hassle for all the reasons you mentioned, and one I personally choose not to deal with. I have traded in on my last few car purchases, and I feel that I was treated fairly in all cases, but on my next purchase, I will also consider CarMax and USAA as well and go with the best of the three.
