Early next year around 2000 officers are going to get a letter saying "you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here". Other than the occasional Army Times article I haven't seen anything put out officially. The Major Mafia says Majors could face 8-12% cuts while some CPT year groups may have a 30-50% over the next few years. Does anyone have any better intel, such as actual numbers by branch and year group?

Currently US Legislation only allows an officer's packet to appear in front of the E-SRB or the E-OSB boards once every 5 years. So, if your packet appeared in front of one of these boards than your next look for your year group will be in 5 years.

Human Resource Command is trying to get this legislation changed, so officers packets may appear in front of one of those boards on a yearly basis.

You will see more early retirement options being approve by the SECDEF and congress, so be alert to the MILPER messages.

MEDCOM and JAG officers will start have boards next year to assist in the Army in getting down to its new end strength.

If you get a chance to retire on your own terms may be the best way to go then being given the pink slip.

Sir, in the slides it said... 82 percent will not retire as an officer. I know what it means, but if they retire enlisted (if not meeting the 8yr requirement) Have u seen anything regarding TERA retirement pay? I am in YG10, so doesn't affect... But if it happens in two years, I would have 6 yrs as an officer and 16 years in an wonder how that works.

No one here expected things to get better with the mindset that was all for taking apart what they call the 'military industrial complex.'   I swear I want to smack them around like a cat does to a mouse.    We will just have to wait and see.

Notifications for majors will be made no later than Aug. 16, according to information provided by the Human Resources Command.

Under Army policy, deployed officers selected by the reduction in force boards will be returned to home station within 30 days of their RIF notification for transition briefings and processing.

Army policy requires that officers selected by the boards, regardless of location, be notified of their pending separation by a general officer.

An officer selected by the OSB must be separated from the Army by 1 April 2015 (for Captains) and 1 May 2015 (for Majors).

For anyone who hasn't seen this - HRC posted this on their Facebook page yesterday.

The Secretary of the Army approved the results of the FY14 ACC MAJ Officer Separation Boards (OSBs) and Enhanced Selective Early Retirement Boards (eSERBs) for Year Groups 1999 through 2003.

Officers selected for the FY14 MAJ's OSB & E-SERB will be personally notified by their chain of command NLT 16 Aug 2014.
As with the CPT OSB/eSERB, we will not publish a list of officers selected by these boards.

For some selected officers, transitioning to the reserve component may be an option. Using your skills and experience in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard strengthens the Total Army and benefits the officers and their families.

I know this is an older post and many of the questions and issues brought up here have been answered by recent events but I ran across this NY Times article and thought it was very appropriate for this forum, especially considering the repeated claims by HRC that separations would be based solely on your records and performance.

A very good friend of mine with a spotless records (and ten years as an enlisted Soldier) is job hunting right now while a mutual acquaintance who was relieved of command (but graduated from West Point) is continuing his career. I am not a conspiracy theory fan but . . . something smells fishy here.

In my branch brief they were fairly clear and open to us that a prior service guy's "potential" for leadership in the future is hampered by his retirement eligibility. (On average the Army will get fewer years out of a prior service guy)

It sounds like most branches weren't as open.

Given the HIGH percentage of West Point graduates that leave the service after their initial five year obligation is met (over 80%) versus the number of OCS graduates that give ten or more years to the officer corps (over 70%), this is one area where I think the Army's view is skewed.

Sure, the younger CPT with no enlisted time has more "potential" time to give to the Army. The reality, as shown by the numbers, is that the Army gets more from those low potential OCS graduates.

Quick caveat to my "70%" number given above. This leaves out the College Option OCS students who have no true Army experience prior to the 12 fun filled weeks at Benning; they tend to dive out at about the same rate as West Point graudates. I am referring only to Candidates with real military experience prior to OCS.

College option also do Basic Training. I get your point that they are in no way "prior service," but there is at least a little more than 12 weeks.

I would say in a few weeks to a month max...after the CPT's release, then the MAJ's list; they seem to be slowly dropping the hammers to alleviate the blunt force trauma being applied to the Army...

The latest rumor from the wife network says the list went to the generals yesterday and the generals have between 21-31 July to make notifications. I've decided to stop worrying about it and look forward to Fort Huachuca in January unless someone higher ranking calls me...
