I’m currently a 1LT with one year left of my initial 6 year obligation. After my initial obligation, is it possible to go to the IRR and then transfer to Active Duty?

Possible, yes...but why not just transfer to the active and maintain your time? What is driving the move to the IRR?

Well Sir, it my understand that it essentially impossible to transfer directly from the Guard to Active. I know of other LTs and CPTs that have gone IIR to facilitate going from the Guard to Reserve. So my thought would be it would be similar to Active

I'm sure you've done your research already, but it's possible. The key is getting your state to release you. https://www.thebalance.com/transfering-from-national-guard-reserve-to-active-duty-3353261

I'm not sure if you still need this Sir, but for anyone else who might be wondering the same thing, there is a Call to Active Duty program for Officers. I'm not sure if it works for National Guard Officers, but I know Reserve Officers can use it.
From the one Officer I know to apply for the program, I know it has taken about 6-8 months for his packet to be processed.
