According to the Administration, illegal border crossings are at a 20 year low. Mission accomplished?

As the Department of Homeland Security continues to pour money into border security, evidence is emerging that illegal immigration flows have fallen to their lowest level in at least two decades. The nation’s population of illegal immigrants, which more than tripled, to 12.2 million, between 1990 and 2007, has dropped by about 1 million, according to demographers at the Pew Research Center.
A key — but largely overlooked — sign of these ebbing flows is the changing makeup of the undocumented population. Until recent years, illegal immigrants tended to be young men streaming across the Southern border in pursuit of work. But demographic data show that the typical illegal immigrant now is much more likely someone who is 35 or older and has lived in the United States for a decade or more.
Homeland security officials in the Obama and George W. Bush administrations — who have more than doubled the Border Patrol’s size and spent billions on drones, sensors and other technology at the border — say enhanced security is driving the new trends.

I don't trust any statement that begins with: "According to the Administration". We all know what lying bags of doo-doo the "administration" can be.

Never rest on the ground gained on this. To be honest with you... It's probably like unemployment and they are just reporting different numbers to make everyone feel better and that there is a Mission Success in Washington... Grrrr!

Funny to see this article when we have temp shelters crammed with illegals. Classic government misdirection.

I agree and the doublethink phrases written in 1984 come to mind. War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength, illegal immigration is legal immigration, et. al. Yes, I made that last one up, but if the Orwellianism fits the saul alinski rules...

Illegal immigration has been around our southern boarder area since the formation of governments here. Texas was founded by illegal immigrants from the US. Men like Davy Crockett were specifically targeted in the Law of April 6, 1830 from coming to Texas but that did not stop them. Fact is if you could somehow magically snap your fingers and all make all non-documented worker in the US disappear we would kick of a world wide great depression.

Far from mission accomplished. We need to maintain the security because of those who want to harm us. More vigilance is required. Can't let our guard down now!

Methinks the reason(s) may be a combination of improved border presence and our struggling economy. It might not be a rosy American Dream that the average illegal finds at journeys end.

This is another subject that I seem to have an issue standing firmly on one side of or the other. We are, and always have been, a nation of immigrants. I'd be willing to bet that not all of those that helped build this country into what it is today were all legal.
That being said, I also know that there are two issues. There are many more immigrants now than there were during our formative years. There are also people that mean to do our country and its people harm who would use the lax security at our borders to their advantage.

PO3 David Fries Have you ever visited Ellis Island and seen what our forefathers went through to come into this country?
I certainly can not say that there was no illegal immigration, BUT, I can say that there was MUCH more respect for and much more enforcement of laws in my parents and grandparents day. Based on that I think that the instances of illegal immigration in the earlier days was not much of a problem.
In this whole discussion the losers are the American people and those who are actually tryong to enter out country legally.

Capt (Join to see) I certainly won't disagree with you on that. My great grandparents were immigrants who wanted to work for the American Dream. The newer generations want to be handed the American Dream (and in a few cases, ship that to their home countries).

When you believe (as the Obama administration does), that anyone crossing the border is a "legal" migrant, then there are no illegal crossings. Game over!!!

When the illegal crossings stop all together, then its mission accomplished
