Should rent-to-own and other companies like USA Discounters be allowed to advertise on post? To the financial savvy, we know that these places love new privates and their willingness to sign a contract for high value items, just to ream them with high interest rates. Not stating the obvious role of leadership to inform junior enlisted about these practices, doesn't the military have an obligation to ban just business from military installations?

How are they advertising on post? What specifically are you asking to restrict?

They have ads in the post news paper and up in the shopettes and PX. By allowing this, I feel the military is giving approval to their tactics. Why give financial classes and then allow the problem to stay.

Why not? We allow AAFES to pimp their Star card with "save 5 cents on a gallon of gas if you use your Star card" then garnish pay when no other credit agency has that ability. New Soldiers should get a counseling about finances and then when they mess their finances up, they get another counseling with some ACS help. Then if they keep making bad financial decisions you have the counseling a to back up a bar and ultimately if they don't change their ways a chapter.

I think the standard is and should be quite severe to restrict service members from a private business. If they are not engaging in actual criminal activity (or activity prohibited under UCMJ), I don't see how the commander could justify a prohibition.
In the case of advertising, the business would have quite a good case to sue the government if their advertising was rejected on the basis of the commander not liking the service they provided.
The only realistic solution would be to remove all advertising, thereby reducing MWR funding (I'm assuming the post paper contributes to MWR) for other endeavors.

I don't see a problem with advertising on base. Young people are supposed to create debt and have bad credit it's part of growing up. If you have never had debt or bad credit then you don't know what struggling is.
