Well I would have to say the A-10 but I guess that is mainly due to the type of war we are fighting at this moment in Afghanistan and how many people I have seen it kill.

I guess the most important thing is to qualify the mission first, Seek and Destroy, Protect, Search and Rescue? Every mission has a fine honed tool to use (more than likely; several) to choose from. ...and then there is just the plain "Pretty Cool' factor....So for Protect, my vote is the A-10 Tank Killer, for the Seek and Destroy, you could probably put in the F-15 Strike Eagle... for Search and Rescue, definitely the H-60 Black?Sea/Jay Hawk ( what! How did a helo get on that list?)... and for just being pretty damn cool, serve me up some F-22 Raptor, please! But don't forget the work horses, i.e. supply/maintenance and the Reconnaissance aircraft... Thank you, C-130's. and the uber cool Reconnaissance aircraft U-2's for your service too! So many aircraft out there, thank you all!

CSM (Join to see) - But an AF flag officer with his F-35 JSF 160 BILLION over budget buggy computerized fly-by-wire- beta- programmed plane says that keeping the A-10 is 'unamerican' and he tried so hard to kill the A-10 but Senator McCain and Former A-10 Squadron Commander and Arizona Rep. McSally got together and fought the military industrial complex and won a 4-year stay of execution on the A-10 in this year's budget. The AF General in charge of the JSF I am sure is having a 3 year old termper tantrum. I think the A-10 Warthog should be like the B-52 and continue flying until 2040.

lets make sure the A-10 Warthog for low-level support also beign kept airworthy until 2040 and B-52 for 21st Century Crusie Missle or Linebacker/Arclight but now precision bombing missions and just like the A-10 having a long dwell time!

If we're talking bombers, the B-52.
Fighters, the F/A-18 or F-15
Attack-Fixed, the A-10.
Cargo-Fixed, C-17
Cargo/Utility-rotary, the CH-53
Attack-Rotary, AH-64

Can't really generalize that considering the broad spectrum that would cover. However, simply due to longevity, I'd probably go with the B-52 or the CH-46/47 because they've been around for 50-60 years.

You forgot the ISR category, which has to go to the U2.

TSgt (Join to see) - believe it or not, there are still a few B57 variants in service that do some...interesting.. stuff. The U2s missions are capable by other platforms. The B57s aren’t.
ISR goes to the Canberra.
